The Glorious Coast
We'll begin a busy day of travel to the Oregon coast along scenic backroads paralleling Colonel T. E. Hogg's
transcontinental railroad line. We'll visit Oregon State University's
Hatfield Marine Science Center and Yaquina Head lighthouse (Oregon
tallest lighthouse), and see the future home of NOAAs (National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration's) pacific fleet in Newport. We'll
break for lunch and have a chance for local shopping at Newport's best
beach access, Nye Beach, and then cross Oregon's tallest coast bridge
(Yaquina Bay Bridge) heading south along the coast highway to the Alsea
River. We'll travel up the beautiful Alsea valley to the Oregon
Hatchery Reseach Center, stop for a quick visit to John Boy's
Mercantile and then complete our coast trip with a visit to the
Gathering Together Farm (A Certified Organic Farm and store) in Philomath before returning back to our hotels.
